Zanzibar Cultural Stay (4 days)

4 days duration

The exotic Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar or Unguja, which is its correct name with Zanzibar being the island's main town, is steeped in a rich and sometimes dark history. This history comes from many influences, having been ruled at different times by the Omanis, Arabs, Europeans and now Africans.

Zanzibar is often referred to as the ''Spice Island" for good reason, as not only are many spices grown here but a number, now grown in other parts of the world, originated here. With its World Heritage listed Old Stone Town and magnificent palm fringed beaches, this mystical island has a lot to offer visitors.

Day 1 Arrive Zanzibar

On arrival at Zanzibar Airport you are met and taken to your hotel, conveniently located in the Old Stone Town portion of the city, for an exotic three-night stay.

Day 2 Old Stone Town - City Tour

Following breakfast you are taken into the Old Stone Town of Zanzibar for a comprehensive city tour. You start off taking a leisurely walk through the narrow streets of Old Zanzibar. Here you experience the rich Zanzibari Culture in its many exotic and colourful bazaars. The walking tour culminates as you are taken through the intimidating slave market and slave chambers.

From here, you pass along the beach road to the Old British Consulate, the Old Fort and the House of Wonders (the Museum of History and Culture of Zanzibar and the Swahili Coast). You are returned to your hotel later this morning where you have the remainder of the day at leisure. (B

Day 3 Old Stone Town - Spice Tour

Zanzibar is referred to as the "Spice Island" for good reason. This morning you embark on a tour to a spice and tropical fruit farm, where you see numerous varieties of spices including cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, nutmeg and mace as well as tropical fruits such as jack fruit, bread fruit and the perfume and lipstick trees, being grown. You also visit the Kibweni Palace to view its famous Persian Baths, built in 1850 by the first Sultan of Zanzibar for his wife, Princess Shehrzard.

This afternoon is at leisure for you to relax and enjoy the hotel facilities. (B)

Day 4 Old Stone Town / Depart Zanzibar

Today you bid farewell to this most exotic of islands as you are taken to the airport for your onward flight where your tour ends. (B)
