Today you will travel from Ojo de Perdiz to the Green Lagoon, an impressive aquatic mirror that resembles a giant emerald. You continue south towards Sol de Manana (Morning Sun); a place of fumes and geysers before reaching the Red Lagoon, one of Bolivia’s most spectacular and isolated marvels. The shores and shallows of the lagoon are crusted with gypsum and salt, a bizarre arctic-white counter point to the flaming red waters. Today you will travel towards Tahua, visiting on the way the Galaxy Cave (famous for its geological formations), the Uyuni Salt Flat and Incahuasi Island. The island is filled with a species of cacti that grows up to 12 metres high, providing an impressive overview. When the lake has water in it, the blue sky merges into the blue water and the islands appear suspended in space. Some areas of the lake may be dry, in which case the salt crust is a brilliant white and looks like a perfect snowfield. In the afternoon you arrive in Tahua located at the base of the Tunupa volcano. (BLD)
Today you will be driven back to Potosi, visiting the Coquesa village and the Mummies at Tunupa Volcano on the way. On arrival into Potosi you will be taken to your hotel.
Potosi, declared a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO, was founded by the Spanish in 1545, after they discovered Indians mining silver in the hill at whose foot Potosi stands. Large parts of it are Colonial in style, with twisting, narrow streets and an occasional mansion, with its family coat of arms hanging over the front doorway. (BLD)
Today you will be collected from your hotel and transferred by road to Sucre Airport for your return flight to La Paz. (B)
