The Best of Sri Lanka Tour (7 days)

7 days duration

Sri Lanka is well known for its beach holidays. Bentota offers the best beach holiday in Sri Lanka and is located near Colombo. It is therefore easy to combine a visit to a beach resort with this tour package.

Day 1 Arrive Kandy

On arrival at Kandy Airport you will be met and transferred to Kandy by road. Enroute you visit the elephant orphanage at Pinnawala. This orphanage is home to around 60 elephants, some of which are babies found abandoned or orphaned in the wild. They are being cared for, fed and trained by the wildlife authorities. The best time to visit is during feeding time when you have the opportunity of seeing them being bottle-fed. You may also get the opportunity to accompany the elephants to the nearby river to see them enjoy their daily bath.

Following the visit you are taken to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure. (D)

Day 2 Kandy

After breakfast you visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens with their large variety of trees, plants and flowers. Later you are taken on a comprehensive city tour of Kandy, which was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is now a declared World Heritage Site. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive in this most interesting city. Among others you see Lake Kandy, a bazaar, the arts and crafts centre as well as the Temple of the Tooth Relic. You also attend a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing and performance. (BLD)

Day 3 Kandy

This morning you are taken by road to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka’s most popular hill resort, its status due to its invigorating mountain climate and scenery.

It is also the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country producing a significant share of the world’s best tea. Enroute you visit a tea plantation and factory where some of the best tea in the world is produced. You will hear about the manufacturing process and see how it is graded before tasting a cup of pure Ceylon Tea at its source. (BLD)

Day 4 Kandy / Embilipitiya

Later today you are transferred to Embilipitiya, located near Uda Walawe National Park. In the afternoon you will be taken on a Jeep safari into the park. (BLD)

Day 5 Embilipitiya / Colombo

Uda Walawe is the best park in Sri Lanka to see wild elephants. Located next to the vast Uda Walawe reservoir, the park consists of a mixture of scrubland and Teak forest. Herds of Elephant in excess of 50 individuals are not uncommon. Leopard, Sloth Bear, Water Buffalo as well as many deer and bird species are also present. You undertake a morning safari into the reserve to look for some of these animals before being driven to Colombo for a two-night stay. (BLD)

Day 6 Colombo

Today you are taken on a half day city tour of Colombo. You drive through the area known as the “Fort” so named, because both the Portuguese and Dutch had a fort at this point. You also visit ‘Pettah’, a noisy Oriental bazaar with a hotchpotch of humanity, mosques and temples. To show what a religious melting pot Colombo is, you see the Hindu temple, Jumi-ul Alfar Jumma Mosque and the Wolvendaal Dutch Church. One of the last stops is at Independence Square. (BLD)

Day 7 Depart Colombo

Following breakfast your tour comes to an end as you check out of your hotel. (B)
