Syria & Lebanon (10 days)10 days duration
On arrival in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, you will be met and taken to your well appointed hotel for two nights. (D)
Following breakfast you will undertake a comprehensive tour of the Old Town which includes visits to various old churches and mosques as well as the Roman Baths and El Abed Square. You will continue on to visit Baalbeck, Lebanon's greatest Roman treasure. It is one of the largest and best preserved Roman temples ever built. Towering high above the Beqaa Plain, its monumental proportions proclaimed the power and wealth of Imperial Rome. After your visit you will be driven back to Beirut to have dinner in a local Lebanese restaurant before returning to your hotel for the night. (BLD)
This morning you will depart to Byblos with stops at the Nahr el Kalb steles and the famous statue known as ''Our Lady of Lebanon'' in Harissa. Byblos is claimed to be the oldest city in the world, having been continuously inhabited for more than 7,000 years. On the tour you will see remains of Neolithic, Middle Bronze Age, Amorite, Egyptian, Hyksos, Phoenician, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arab and Crusader origins. Byblos, which gave its name to the Bible, provides more than archeological interest as it retains much of its ancient charm. Later in the day you will have drinks at the Fishing Club in Byblos before being taken to your hotel in the Krak area for tonight. (BLD)
Your tour today starts with a visit to Krak des Chevaliers, one of the most impressive Cruisader fortresses. From here you will proceed to Apamea, founded at the beginning of the 3rd Century BC. Its theatre, baths, temples and villas were constructed during the town's peak prosperity in the 2nd Century AD and the colonnaded main street during the reign of Marcus Aurelius. You will continue on to Ebla, the old capital with its Royal Archives and then to Aleppo, where you will have dinner and spend two nights. (BLD)
You will spend the day touring the city taking in the Main Museum, the Grand Mosque, the 8km Old Bazaar, the Citadel, St Simeon Cathedral and the old Christian Neighbourhood. (BLD)
After breakfast you will depart to Palmyra via the city of Homs. After checking into your hotel in Palmyra you will be taken to visit the local museum, the temples of Bel, Baal Shamin and Nebo, the Roman Bath, the Tetrapyle, Diocletian's Camp and the Tombs' Valley. (BLD)
Today you will continue your visit to Palmyra, before departing for Maalula. Here the local villagers still speak Aramaic, the language spoken by Christ! You will visit St Sergius Church before proceeding to St Thecla Convent, where the saint (a pupil of St Paul and one of the first martyrs of the Church) is buried in a cave above the monastery.
Later you will travel to Sednaya where you will check into your hotel and enjoy a superb evening dinner. (BLD)
After breakfast today you will depart on a sightseeing tour of Damascus which includes the National Museum, Omeyad Mosque, the Old Bazaar, Azem Palace, Via Recta, Anania's House, Bab Charki and St Paul's Window.
You will spend the next two nights relaxing at your well appointed hotel in Damascus. (BLD)
Today you will undertake a full day tour to Chahba, the City of ''Phillip The Arab'' who was the Syrian Emperor of Rome. Here you will visit the cities of Sweida and Bosra. They were conquered by Alexander the Great, have been under Roman control and were made the hub of an important network of trade routes linking Egypt, the Red Sea, Syria and the Mediterranean and Mesopotamian Regions. They retained their importance through the Christian Era of the later Roman Empire and the prophet Mohammad probably visited these cities during a trading visit in his formative years.
Later today you will be returned to your hotel in Damascus for dinner and an overnight stay. (BLD)
This last day of your tour will be at leisure before being transferred to Damascus International Airport where you will be assisted with departure formalities for your outgoing flight. (B)
