Sri Lanka Extension (6 days)

6 days duration

This extension works best at the start of the India, Nepal & Bhutan Gold Tour but can be done at any time with some adjustment.

Day 1 Arrive Colombo

On arrival at Colombo Airport you are met and taken to your hotel for the night.

Day 2 Colombo / Bentota

Following breakfast you are taken by road to Bentota located on the sun drenched southern coast at the mouth of the Bentota River. Its picturesque, sandy, palm-fringed beaches bordering the warm, sparkling waters of the Indian Ocean make it a natural place to relax and acclimatise to your new environment. (BLD)

Day 3 Bentota - Galle

Today you undertake a visit to Galle, once the chief port of Ceylon as Sri Lanka was known during the period of British rule. It is well known for its handmade lace and ebony elephants. During the tour you visit the world heritage listed Galle Fort, originally built by the Portuguese but later extended by the Dutch in 1663. (BLD)

Day 4 Bentota / Kandy

You start your day with a relaxing breakfast before being taken by road to Kandy. It too is a world heritage site and was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings. The name Kandy conjures up visions of splendor and magnificence with many of the legends, traditions and folklore still lovingly kept alive. In the afternoon you drive around Kandy Lake built by the last Sinhala king in 1806. You also visit the bazaar, the arts and crafts center and a gem museum. In the evening you visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic before witnessing a traditional cultural dance show. (BD)

Day 5 Kandy - Nuware Eliya

Today you are taken to Nuware Eliya, Sri Lanka’s premier hill station, and the heart of the country’s tea production. Mount Pidurutalagala is also located here. During the tour you visit one of the local tea farms where you find out about how this familiar beverage is grown. (BL)

Day 6 Kandy / Depart Colombo

Following breakfast you are taken to Colombo Airport where your tour comes to an end. En-route you visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage - A home for about 60 elephants found abandoned or orphaned in the wild. They are being cared for, fed and trained by the wild life authority. The best time for your visit is in the morning, when you have the opportunity of seeing these ‘babes’ being bottle-fed. (B)
