South America Sensations Tour

22 days duration

The Sensations Tour includes many, but not all, meals allowing you to do what you want and eat where you like in your free time.

32 superb meals are included in this tour: 21 Breakfasts, 6 Lunches & 5 Dinners.

This exciting escorted tour takes in the best that Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil have to offer. At 22 days in length (excl travel time to and from South America), you have ample time to enjoy the modern and exciting cities of Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro as well as the historic and interesting cities of Lima, Cuzco and La Paz. Each with their own charm and character, we will be taken on conducted tours to gain an understanding of their uniqueness. This will be balanced with great vistas as we venture to the Amazon Jungle and magnificent Iguassu Falls.

In Peru the pre-Inca, Inca and Spanish transitions of architecture of buildings and streets are very visible, especially in Cuzco where one culture has built upon that of the other. You will visit the local Indian Market at Pisac and stay in the Sacred Valley before travelling by train to Machu Picchu Village, where we overnight and therefore are able to visit the site at visitor low peak time. We also overnight on a catamaran as we cross Lake Titicaca enroute to La Paz. To top it all, you will have the opportunity to experience fantastic food and very friendly people.

Overall this is a very rounded and culturally exciting tour with activities to keep everyone eagerly anticipating the next surprise, yet conducted at a leisurely pace to give us time to enjoy the enchanting atmosphere of the areas visited.

Day 1 Monday
  Arrive Lima

Your Sensations Tour commences today on arrival into Lima, where you will be met and taken to our hotel for two nights.

Day 2 Tuesday
  Lima

This afternoon we will be taken on a city tour of Greater Lima, which includes the three distinct historical periods of the city: pre-Columbian, Colonial and Modern. The tour also visits the Santo Domingo Convent and the Casa Aliaga (an Inca Tours exclusive!), one of South America’s oldest Spanish homes and still inhabited by direct descendants of the original family. We will stop at the Government Palace and the Plaza de Armas (Main Square), before driving through the elegant tree-lined avenues of San Isidro and Miraflores. At Parque Salazar we will enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific. (B)

Day 3 Wednesday
  Lima / Amazon Jungle

This morning we will be transferred to Lima Airport for our flight to Puerto Maldonado, deep in the Amazon Jungle. On arrival we will be driven to the river dock. From here it's a half hour canoe journey down the Madre de Dios River. On arrival at the lodge, we will be welcomed for a two-night stay.

After lunch and a siesta, we will board the catamaran and set off to explore the waterways. Here, in the flooded forest it's possible to drift beneath ravenous red-bellied Macaws as they return for the night. We are returned to the lodge around dusk for dinner. Later we may wish to return to the river to spot large black caimans. (BLD
)

Day 4 Thursday
  Amazon Jungle

We have an early morning excursion on the river for a possible encounter with the resident giant otters. Most of the water birds around the river actively fish in the early morning as well, and we may see some prehistoric-looking hoatzins.

After breakfast we will set off into the cool canopy of the tall virgin forest to see some towering wild Brazil Nut Trees and gain an insight into how the Indian community farm their land. (BLD
)
