South America Sensations Tour22 days duration
Your Sensations Tour commences today on arrival into Lima, where you will be met and taken to our hotel for two nights.
This afternoon we will be taken on a city tour of Greater Lima, which includes the three distinct historical periods of the city: pre-Columbian, Colonial and Modern. The tour also visits the Santo Domingo Convent and the Casa Aliaga (an Inca Tours exclusive!), one of South America’s oldest Spanish homes and still inhabited by direct descendants of the original family. We will stop at the Government Palace and the Plaza de Armas (Main Square), before driving through the elegant tree-lined avenues of San Isidro and Miraflores. At Parque Salazar we will enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific. (B)
This morning we will be transferred to Lima Airport for our flight to Puerto Maldonado, deep in the Amazon Jungle. On arrival we will be driven to the river dock. From here it's a half hour canoe journey down the Madre de Dios River. On arrival at the lodge, we will be welcomed for a two-night stay.
After lunch and a siesta, we will board the catamaran and set off to explore the waterways. Here, in the flooded forest it's possible to drift beneath ravenous red-bellied Macaws as they return for the night. We are returned to the lodge around dusk for dinner. Later we may wish to return to the river to spot large black caimans. (BLD)
We have an early morning excursion on the river for a possible encounter with the resident giant otters. Most of the water birds around the river actively fish in the early morning as well, and we may see some prehistoric-looking hoatzins.
After breakfast we will set off into the cool canopy of the tall virgin forest to see some towering wild Brazil Nut Trees and gain an insight into how the Indian community farm their land. (BLD)
This morning we will be transferred back to Puerto Maldonado Airport for our flight to Cuzco, “The Inca Capital”, as it was known. On arrival into Cuzco we will be driven to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, at a lower altitude than Cuzco. On arrival in the Sacred Valley of the Incas we will be taken to our hotel for two nights. (B)
Today we will be taken to visit the famous and traditional Pisac Markets. Here we will have ample time to bargain with the local Indians for their fabulous artifacts and weavings.

Machu Picchu, also known as the “Lost City of the Incas”, is undoubtedly the best known and the most spectacular archeological site on the continent and is a must for all visitors. Our lunch is supplied at Machu Picchu and tonight we will stay in the township of Aguas Calientes, a highlight in itself! (BL)
We have the morning free to further explore the ruins of Machu Picchu without the hassle of crowds. After lunch we will make our way back to the train station for our return journey to Cuzco and transfer to our hotel for two nights.
Cuzco is the archeological capital of the Americas and the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city. Massive Inca-built stonewalls line most of Cuzco’s central streets to form the foundations of Colonial and modern buildings. The streets are stepped, narrow and filled with Quechua-speaking descendants of the Incas. (B)

This morning we will be transferred to the train station for our Orient Express rail journey across the Andes, over the La Raya Pass (the world’s highest rail pass) and on to Puno, on Lake Titicaca. This journey takes about 9 hours and will give us a wonderful experience into Indian life as it has been for hundreds of years. Enroute we will experience some of the world’s most spectacular views. On arrival in Puno we will be taken to our hotel for tonight. (BL)
This morning we will travel by road around Lake Titicaca past small communities of totora reed boat builders. We will travel through the town of Juli and onto Copacabana, where the Church of the Virgin of the Lake is visited. Here we board your catamaran for our Lake Titicaca crossing. We sail past the Island of the Moon and travel on to the Island of the Sun, where we stop for the night.
