Nazca Lines & Arequipa Tour (6 days)6 days duration
On arrival into Lima you will be met and transferred to your hotel for tonight. Lima, the City of the Kings, is a very beautiful city and still has many Colonial buildings.
The Nazca Lines are the most intriguing of the many remnants of civilisations that prospered along the coastline for thousands of years before the arrival of Europeans.
This morning you will be taken by road south of Lima on the Pan American Highway to Ica and Nazca. Here you board a plane and overfly the mysterious Nazca markings, the most famous of which are: the condor, hummingbird and monkey. No one knows precisely why the inhabitants of these coastal valleys etched lines and figures in the desert some 2,000 years ago. The overflight will let you appreciate the scale of their work. On your return to Ica, the wine capital of Peru, you will be taken to your hotel for tonight. (B)
This morning you are taken to the Ica archeological Museum, which houses mummies, ceramics, textiles and skulls from the Paracas, Nazca and Inca Cultures. You then depart Ica on a short drive west to Paracas. Here you will board a boat to visit the Ballestas Islands with their interesting scenery, abundant birdlife and seal colonies. Later you are returned to your Lima hotel for the night. (B)
This morning after breakfast you are transferred to Lima Airport for your flight to Arequipa, where on arrival you will be taken to your hotel for tonight.
The city of Arequipa stands in a beautiful valley at the foot of El Misti Volcano, a snow capped, perfect cone, 5,822 metres high. The city has fine Spanish buildings and churches built of sillar, a pearly white volcanic material mainly used in the construction of Arequipa. This afternoon you will be taken on a city tour, visiting the Santa Catalina Convent, built in the 16th Century, the Plaza de Armas, La Compania Cloisters and the suburbs of Cayma and Yanahuara, with views of El Misti. (B)
Today you will be collected from your Arequipa hotel and driven to your hotel in the Colca Canyon for tonight. (B)
This morning you will visit the Condor's Cross observation point, where condors may be spotted. Here you will gain an appreciation of Colca Canyon's size. The river is about 3,500 metres above sea level at Chivay, falling to 2,200 metres at Cabanaconde. The roads on either side of the canyon are at around 4,000 metres and Nevado Ambato, a short distance away, rises to 6,288 metres.
Later in the day you are returned to Arequipa Airport for your onward flight. (B) Inca Tours does not own any of the hotels, lodges or service providers utilised in making up the tours.
