Millenium - Galapagos Islands Cruise (4 days)8 days duration
Upon arrival on San Cristobal Island, you are picked up at the airport by our guides and taken to the pier to board the Millenium for your three-night cruise of this remarkable archipelago.
San Cristobal Island is home to the capital and administrative centre of the Galápagos Islands, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno which is located on the west side of the island. Here we visit the Interpretation Centre which explains the natural processes that have made the Galápagos such a unique place, delineates efforts to protect and preserve the islands, and serves as an education centre for park personnel and naturalist guides.
The largest fresh water lake in the archipelago, Laguna El Junco, is located in a crater in the highlands of San Cristóbal, in the southern half of the island and harbours a large population of birdlife. (LD)
The southernmost island and the only nesting site of the Waved Albatross. This morning we spent time snorkelling at the lovely beach of Bahia Gardner. In the afternoon at Punta Suarez, see mockingbirds, Blue-footed and Masked Boobies, Darwin Finches, Galapagos Doves and Hawks, red and green marine iguanas, sea lions and the famed Blow Hole. (BLD)
The day starts with a morning snorkelling opportinity at Post Office Bay, where 18th century whalers used a barrel as an unofficial mail drop, a custom still continues today. At Point Cormorant you'll find more than 50 volcanic cones in a 80 mile area, pink flamingos, clear water and interesting coral formations, making this also a perfect spot for snorkeling. (BLD)
The central island in the Galapagos and home to the main port, Puerto Ayora and the Charles Darwin Research Station, which you will visit during your tour. The largest town in Galapagos hosts numerous hotels, restaurants, shops, a post office, a small supermarket and two diving companies.
A 2.5 km walk will bring you to one of the best beaches in the Galapagos, Tortuga Bay. Trips can be made to the "Parte Alta", or the high ground behind Puerto Ayora to visit the incredible lava tunnels, the tortoise reserve at Bellavista and the Gemelos, two twin craters. (BLD) When your cruise comes to an end, you will journey to the airport for your flight back to Guayaquil or Quito. (BL)
