Manu National Park Tour (5 days)5 days duration
Early this morning you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to Cuzco Airport for your short flight to Boca Manu. On arrival you are transferred to the river and undertake an exciting motorised canoe trip to the Manu Wildlife Tented Camp near Cocha Salvador. Enroute you have the chance to see black caimans, capybaras and turtles. On arrival at the camp you check in for a memorable two-night stay. After a rest and freshening up you are taken, by local expert guides, to explore the area surrounding the lodge. You should see birds, monkeys and other wildlife. (LD)
Today you will visit Cocha Salvador where you take to the lake in canoes or on a catamaran in search of the famous endangered giant Otters. Your afternoon is spent exploring the many trails in search of monkeys. (BLD)
Very early this morning you travel down the Manu River to Boca Manu, to visit the local community and then board a motorised canoe for a ninety minute journey down the Madre de Dios River to the Manu Wildlife Centre.
This afternoon you explore the trails around the lodge, with an excellent chance of encountering some of the twelve species of monkey which inhabit the forest. You have the choice of returning to the Manu Wildlife Centre for dinner or to take a boxed meal for a leisurely hike through the night forest to the Amazon's largest known Tapir clay lick. An observation platform above the ground is where you wait for the Tapirs to arrive, which is usually after 9.00pm, with their activity continuing to dawn. Strong torches are available for you to photograph the Tapirs in action. (BLD)
This morning you will be up before dawn to take a 25 minute boat journey downstream to the only large parrot and macaw clay lick in the Manu area. From behind a blind you are afforded excellent views and photographic opportunities of the medium and large parrots and the red and green macaws arriving to eat the clay.
After lunch you continue by boat and by foot to the Blanco Oxbow Lake. This lake has populations of a variety of aquatic life and water birds, including the prehistoric-looking hoatzin and the possibility of seeing the resident family of giant otter. Tonight you have the opportunity to search for caiman along the riverbank. (BLD)
After a pre-dawn breakfast you depart the lodge by motor canoe for the two hour return trip to Boca Manu Airstrip where you board your flight back to Cuzco. On arrival in Cuzco you will be met by our representative, who will return any luggage you may have left at the start of the trip. You then check in for your onward flight. (B)
