Lares Trek to Machu Picchu (4 days)

Take the relatively untouched trail to Machu Picchu! Avoid the busier Inca Trail Trek and experience the beauty of the Lares Trek. Be among the first in Australia to explore this remote Peruvian back country!

We recommend that before setting off on any Andean Trek, you have 2 or 3 nights in Cuzco. This time at leisure will allow you to acclimatise to the high altitude and ultimately make your trek more enjoyable. We also offer an abbreviated 1 day Inca Trail for those with limited time and for non-trekkers, we have a range of one and two-day train excursions from Cuzco to Machu Picchu.
 

Day 1 Depart Cuzco / Lares Trek - Cuncani
 
This morning you will be collected from your Cuzco hotel and driven to the Sacred Valley passing through the beautiful Andean landscape. On arrival in Quiswarani you commence a climb to Qewna-Qoncha. After lunch you continue via Hualcajasa Pass, to your first night's camp at Cuncani. (LD) 
 
Day 2 Lares Trek - Cuncani / Ipsay Qoncha Lake
 
Today you trek down to the Chancachaca Valley from where there are wonderful views of the Lares Valley. You continue on via Huacawasi, Chaqchapata and Ipsay Qasa Pass to the Ipsay Cocha Lake for your second night of Andean camping. (BLD)
 
Day 3 Lares Trek - Ipsay Qocha Lake / Aguas Calientes
 
After breakfast you enjoy a soft descent to Patacancha and on to Ollantaytambo and Willoq. After lunch you board the train to Aguas Calientes, where on arrival you will check into your hostel for the night. (BLD)
 
Day 4 Lares Trek - Aguas Calientes / Machu Picchu / Arrive Cuzco
 
Early this morning you bus up to Machu Picchu where you are taken on a guided tour of the ruins. After the tour you have free to further explore the site before you make your own way down to the train station for your return rail journey to Cuzco. On arrival into Cuzco your Lares Trek will end.
