Inca Trail Trek including Cuzco (8 days)

8 days duration

In these high valleys beneath towering peaks and icefields, you will see traditional Quechuan highlanders tending herds of alpacas. Porters carry your gear, so you walk with just a daypack and your camera.

We recommend that beofore setting off on any Andean Trek, you have 2 or 3 nights in Cuzco. This time at leisure will allow you to acclimatise to the high altitude and ultimately make your trek more enjoyable. We also offer the standard 4 day / 3 night Inca Trail and an abbreviated 1 day Inca Trail for those with limited time.
 

Day 1 Arrive Cuzco
 
On arrival into Cuzco you will be met and taken to your centrally located hotel for two nights. This afternoon is at leisure to acclimatise to the high altitude. 
 
Day 2 Cuzco - Inca Trail Briefing
 
This morning is at leisure until you make your way to your comprehensive Inca Trail Briefing. Here you will meet the other members of your small group, as well as your local Inca Trail guides. (B)
 
Day 3 Cuzco / Inca Trail - Huayllabamba
 
This morning you will be collected from your hotel and taken to the trailhead at Piscacucho, on the Vilcanota River. Porters will carry the heavy gear and you will walk with only a day pack. Today you will hike beneath the impressive snowcapped Nevado Veronica, past cactus gardens and fields of corn to the Inca ruins of Llactapata. You will then continue up a valley to your camp in the picturesque hamlet of Huayllabamba. (BLD)
 
Day 4 Inca Trail - Pacaymayo
 
You climb steeply up through fields and forest, then emerge above the tree line and reach Warmiwanusqa Pass. You will enjoy the magnificent views of Huaynay Range's snowy peaks and ruins. You then descend to your camp in the valley's base. (BLD)
 
Day 5 Inca Trail - Phuyopatamarka
 
Today you cross a second pass and follow a fine Inca Highway down to the exquisite ridge-top ruins of Sayaqmarka. Further on, you pass through a tunnel amid luxuriant cloud forest. Tonight you camp at the ruins overlooking the Vilcanota River. (BLD)
 
Day 6 Inca Trail - Machu Picchu
 
The Royal Highway descends steeply through orchid-rich cloud forest. The final part of the trail is stunningly beautiful. You emerge at the Gate of the Sun for your first view of Machu Picchu from high above the city. You stroll down the Royal Road and at last enter the Lost City. Tonight you camp by the Sacred River below the ruins. (BLD) 
 
Day 7 Machu Picchu / Cuzco
 
This morning you will be taken on a walking tour of Machu Picchu, after which you can further explore these extensive ruins. This afternoon you will join your train for the return journey to Cuzco, where on arrival you will be met and taken back to your hotel for tonight. (B) 
 
Day 8 Depart Cuzco
 
Your tour comes to an end this morning. (B)
