Easter Island Stopover (4 days)4 days duration
On arrival on Easter Island this evening you will be met and taken to your centrally located hotel for three relaxing nights.
After an early breakfast you will be taken on a full-day tour along the Moais Route passing by Vaihu, an area surrounded by many statues face down on the ground. From here you will be taken to the Akahanga Ruins, close to the southern coast, where the first king of the island was buried.
The tour then continues to the Rano Raraku Volcano, the "Factory of the Moais", where hundreds of Moais are still affixed to a huge rock wall. Other archeological sites are visited, the most important of which is Ahu Tongariki, the largest archeological site with 15 Moais each weighing about 50 tons. On arrival at Anakena Beach, you will have lunch, after which there will be time for a swim in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. (BL)
This morning you will be taken on a tour firstly visiting the Rano Kao Volcano, whose deep crater contains a lake surrounded by exuberant vegetation. You continue on to Orongo, a ceremonial village from where the competition to elect the chief of the island started. The men had to swim to Motu Nui Island to get the Manutara Egg (holy bird) and swim back to the island. The first man to arrive back became chief for the year. More than 100 petroglyphs can also be seen here, representing different symbols of the Rapa Nui culture.
You then proceed to Ana Kai Tangata Cave, used as a shelter during the times of war and colclude at Vinapu, where the architecture resembles that of the Incas. From here you will be returned to your hotel. Your afternoon is at leisure. (B)
Today is also at leisure to further explore. This evening you will be transferred back to the airport for your onward flight. (B)
