Today you make your way to the airport for your flight to South Africa. On arrival at Johannesburg Airport you catch the hotel shuttle bus to your conveniently located airport hotel for the night.
After breakfast you are driven to Lake Nakuru National Park where you arrive in time for lunch. After lunch you undertake a leisurely game drive which takes your through Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for pink flamingos. (BLD)
After breakfast you depart from your lodge and drive to Masai Mara. Here you undertake the first of many safaris. (BLD)
You undertake morning and afternoon game drives in this spectacular reserve, all with superb photographic opportunities. Blessed with a permanent water supply, Masai Mara has a permanent population of plains' game including some of the "Big 5": Elephant, Buffalo, Lion & Leopard which can be quite commom. (BLD)
After breakfast you depart from your lodge with a picnic lunch for your drive to the Serengeti. Today you cross the border between Kenya and Tanzania. After you clear customs and immigration, you are driven to your lodge in the Serengeti. The landscape of the park, with its low vegetation and vast seas of open plain, is ideal for game viewing. Famed for its annual migrations of Wildebeest, Zebras and Gazelles which are tracked by an impressive array of predators such as Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs and Hyenas, you are in for a thrilling few days of game viewing. You spend the day game viewing in this wildlife paradise which is one of the largest nature reserves in the world. (BLD)
You say goodbye to Serengeti as you drive to Ngorongoro Crater - one of the Wonders of the World and a designated World Heritage Site. Your lodge, with its excellent cuisine, has commanding views, probably the very best in East Africa.
Enroute to the crater you visit Olduvai Gorge, the archaeological site where some of the world's most important anthropological finds have been made. There is a small museum and at the lookout on the edge of the gorge, one of the local experts will tell you about the excavations below. Before returning to your lodge, you visit a nearby Maasai village to meet the proud people, who have lived on these plains since time immemorial. (BLD)
This morning you leave early in your game viewing vehicles and descend the 670 metres to the Crater floor for a fantastic day among Africa's "Big 5" - Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo. Later you drive down the side of the crater to Lake Manyara for a two nights. (BLD)
Today you undertake a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. This national park is located between the wall of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara and is famous for its tree climbing lions, herds of elephants and hot spring waters (Maji Moto). (BLD)
Following breakfast you are driven to Amboseli National Park, in Kenya. Situated at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli is famous for its herds of elephants and views of Kilimanjaro. This afternoon you have another game drive in search of elephant, lion, giraffe, buffalo and much more. (BLD)
Today you further explore the park and if weather permits, view Kilimanjaro. (BLD)
You have a final morning game drive in Amboseli National Park before being driven back to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. On arrival in Nairobi you are taken to your city hotel for the night. (B)
Following a leisurely breakfast you are taken to Nairobi Airport for your flight to Kigali in Rwanda. On arrival at Kigali Airport you are met and driven to Kinigi in the foothills of the Virunga Mountains. Here you check into your eco-lodge, with its spectacular view, for a two night stay. (BLD)
Today you start early in search of the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. You have the opportunity to visit one of the habituated gorilla families. Sitting among them as they go about their daily activities will undoubtedly be one of the most poignant wildlife encounters you will ever have. The sheer physical presence of an adult male silverback, three times as bulky as the average man, yet remarkably peaceful and tolerant of visitors, defies description. The remainder of today is at leisure. (BLD)
After breakfast you set off in search of the Golden Monkeys found in this area. This is a very different experience from yesterday's gorilla encounter. The monkeys react and interact completely differently from gorillas and maintain their game of hide-and-seek while you watch. Later you have lunch while being driven back to Kigali. On arrival you check into your hotel for tonight. (BL)
This morning you are taken on a Kigali City Tour, which includes a visit to the Genocide Memorial Centre at Gisozi, commemorating the genocide of 1994. A visit to the genocide memorial is for most visitors an emotional event. After the tour you are taken to the airport for your flight to Nairobi. On arrival you remain in transit until your flight to Johannesburg departs later tonight. On arrival into Johannesburg you catch the hotel shuttle to your conveniently located airport hotel. (B)
This afternoon you catch the shuttle bus back to the airport for your flight home. (B)
