Cape Town to Victoria Falls with FREE Botswana Extension (23 days)23 days duration (including FREE extension)
Your tour starts on arrival at Cape Town International Airport where you will be met and transferred to your hotel for the night. Set against the majestic Table Mountain, Cape Town offers scenic, historic and cultural attractions.
Today you undertake a full day Peninsular Tour. Driving along the Atlantic Seaboard via Hout Bay and Chapman's Peak, you visit the Cape Point Nature Reserve, returning to your hotel via the Indian Ocean coastline. A morning or afternoon cable car ascent up Table Mountain is included, weather permitting. (B)
After departing Cape Town this morning, you pass through the picturesque Namaqualand Region, arriving in the historic town of Calvinia, nestled at the foot of the Hantam Mountain Range. During the months of August to October the landscape is transformed into an explosion of colour due to the numerous wild flowers of the region. (B)
Leaving the Little Karoo behind, you head north to the Augrabies Falls National Park. Here the mighty Orange River plummets 56 metres into the gorge below. The local name for these majestic falls is "Aukoerebis" or "place of great noise". You spend the afternoon enjoying the falls from many viewpoints. (B)
From the Augrabies Falls National Park you head into the Kalahari and the magnificent Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Covering over 3.6 million hectares this is one of the largest reserves in Africa. Due to sparse vegetation in the area excellent predator sightings are common including that of the famous black maned Lion. (B)
You will spend the day exploring this interesting park, seeking out the unique wildlife that calls it home. (B)
Leaving the Kalahari Region you head west and enter Namibia where you visit the Fish River Canyon, one of the largest and most awe inspiring canyons in the world. (B)
Your journey today takes you north through ever changing scenery to your accommodation located on the edge of the Namib Desert. You will enjoy a sunset walk in the dunes surrounding your camp. (B)
Today you have an early morning departure for Sossusvlei, stopping in the dune belt to witness the changing colours of the world's highest sand dunes. You then undertake a 5 km walk to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. In the afternoon you enjoy a short walk through the picturesque Sesriem Canyon. (B)
After breakfast you cross the desert and reach the coast at Walvis Bay where you will have the opportunity of viewing the many flamingoes feeding. Later in the day you complete the short drive to Swakopmund where you spend the next two nights. (B)
Today you will have the whole day at leisure to explore this German Colonial town or to simply relax. (B)
Your drive today takes you inland through the Damaraland Region with its vast and rugged terrain. Its mountain ranges are intercepted by wide gravel plains, which run into sandy, vegetated riverbeds and hot, dry valleys. You will undertake walks in the Twyfelfontein Area to see the Bushman paintings, rock engravings as well as the Organ Pipes. (B)
In the morning you will visit a Himba Settlement. The Himba are a semi-nomadic people, living in scattered settlements throughout the region. They are characterised by their proud yet friendly stature and the women are noted for their unusual beauty, enhanced by intricate hair styles and traditional dress. A few hours are spent learning more about these fascinating people. After your visit you proceed to Etosha National Park where you enjoy your first game drive. (B)
Etosha National Park is one of the most important sanctuaries in Africa with thousands of wild animals such as Wildebeest, Springbok, Zebra, Kudu, Giraffe, Cheetah, Leopard, Lion and Elephant making this area their home. Floodlit waterholes at the campsites attract an abundance of animals throughout the evening, providing you with many amazing wildlife sightings. You will enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives. (B)
Today you leave the more arid areas behind as you enter the Caprivi Strip, where you can enjoy the sunset as we spend the night among the lush vegetation overlooking the Okavango River. (B)
You will have a relaxing day whilst enjoying the prolific bird and animal life of the Okavango. There are a number of optional excursions available (extra cost). (B)
Your journey today takes you to, without doubt, one of the greatest and most spectacular sights in Africa; the Victoria Falls. (B)
Today is at leisure to explore this interesting area. Optional activities (extra cost) include visiting the falls, white water rafting, bungy jumping, helicopter flights over the falls, lion walks and elephant back safaris. (B)
Your tour ends this morning when you check out of your hotel. There are good connections for flights home or alternatively, you can continue with the following extension or the next tour. (B)
TOUR EXTENSION
This tour extension from Livingstone to Johannesburg is FREE when booked in conjunction with and when taken directly after the Cape Town to Livingstone part of the tour, subject to availability.
Departing from Victoria Falls, you enter Botswana and head for Chobe National Park. Chobe is famous for its beautiful scenery, magnificent sunsets and abundance of wildlife and birdlife. This evening you relax on a game-viewing cruise on the Chobe River. (B)
Today you drive to Nata where you visit the Makgadikgadi Pans (weather permitting) for a truly unforgettable sunset over what remains of a large ancient lake. (B)
You travel down the Eastern side of Botswana before crossing the border into South Africa. Here you overnight in the picturesque Limpopo Region of the country. (B)
Your memorable journey nears its end as you travel via the 'Jacaranda City' of Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa and home to the famous Union Buildings, to Johannesburg Airport where the tour extension ends on arrival. (B)
Please note: The tour ends in Johannesburg some time around 1600 which means you may not be able to make connecting flights. We are able to book a suitable hotel for the night which includes free transfers to the airport the following day. This is at extra cost and is not included in the cost of the tour.
