Bangalore & Mysore Tour (10 days)10 days duration
On arrival in Bangalore, now called Bangalooru, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for an enjoyable two-night stay.
Following breakfast you will be taken on a comprehensive full day city tour of Bangalore. On the tour you visit Bangalore Palace, which is set on eight hundred acres in the middle of the city. It was built in 1887 in the Tudor style and has similarities with Windsor Castle in England.
For some floral beauty you also visit Lal Bagh and the Cubbon Park Gardens. The name Lal Bagh was given to these gardens because of the wonderful red roses which bloom all year round. Your final visit is to Tipu’s Palace and Fort. The architecture and layout of this palace is in the Mughal style and gives you an insight into the era in which it was designed and built. (B)
Today you are taken by road to Kabini for a two-night stay. After checking into your hotel and freshening up you will be taken for an afternoon jeep safari in the Rajiv Gandhi National Park. Not known for its ‘big cat’ sightings although Tiger and Leopard are present in the area, it is still a very enjoyable park to visit on account of the elephant, unusual mammal and bird sightings it offers. This morning you will be taken on a boat cruise on the Kabini River which forms part of the border to the national park. Following the cruise you return to the hotel to relax before undertaking a final Jeep safari in the national park. (BLD)
After breakfast you will be transferred by road to your hotel in Mysore for a two-night stay.
In the afternoon you are taken on an interesting city tour of Mysore. During the tour you visit Mysore Palace and the Brindaban Garden. The palace is the former residence of the ruler of Mysore and is a splendid structure in the Indo-Sarcenic style. The palace museum has many interesting items from a bygone era which include a magnificent gold throne and some silver doors. St Philomena’s Church, one of the largest churches in India, is to be found here as well. (BLD)
You are taken on a morning tour to Chamundi Hills, where you visit the Temple dedicated to the Goddess Chamundeswan.
Following the visit you continue on to Srirangapattna on the Kaveri River. This island fortress of the legendary warrior king Tipu Saltan contains a mosque and temple. Close by is Tipu’s Summer Palace with its ornate and beautiful frescoes and picturesque gardens. After being returned to your hotel you have the remainder of the day at leisure. (BLD)
Following a leisurely breakfast you are transferred to the town of Hassan where you have the remainder of the day at leisure. (BLD)
Your tour today takes in Belur and Halibid. Belur is famous for the Chennakeswara temple, which was built in 1116 AD. This magnificent temple is one of the finest specimens of Hoysala temple architecture and has numerous intricate sculptures and friezes.
Halebid was the capital city of the Hoysala Empire before it was destroyed in 1311 AD. The elaborately carved temples of Hoysaleswara and Kedarswara are to be found here with their fantastic carvings. With all the carvings, no two facets of the temple are the same. In the evening you will be taken on a tour of Hassan in a bullock cart. (BLD)
You return to Bangalore today with a visit to Sravana Belagola on the way. This huge (17 metres tall) monolithic Jain Tirthankar statue is set on top of a hill, but walking up the many steps is well worth the effort.
On arrival in Bangalore you check into your hotel before being taken on a plantation tour in the evening. (B)
