Amazon Nature Cruise (8 days)8 days duration
This morning you will board your cruise boat in Manaus and depart upstream on the Negro River. During the morning you will cruise through the Anavilhanas Archipelago. By mid-afternoon your vessel will have gone beyond the frontier of settlement and entered the wilderness area. Though you never know what you may see, you have a good chance of observing pink river dolphins and you will certainly be treated to magnificent forest vistas. In the late afternoon you embark in a launch to search for wildlife. You may also go for a swim in the river's refreshing waters. (LD)
Early this morning you will explore the rainforest along the water's edge, where you should hear and perhaps see howler monkeys along with a morning serenade of toucans. After breakfast you can go for a walk in the forest before your vessel gets underway. In the late afternoon you will explore the forest in a launch and listen to the sunset chorus of birds and frogs. This morning there will be a visit to the waking forest, where you may be able to see monkeys. Your motor yacht will travel during the middle of the day and stop in the afternoon for an excursion. Tonight the vessel may travel a bit more as you marvel at the night sky crowded with the most brilliant of stars. (BLD)
After this morning's excursions your motor yacht will navigate along the heavily forested shore, scouting for wildlife. You may stop for a visit at a settler’s home carved out of the forest. In the early afternoon you will be near an extraordinary river called the Rio Jauaperi. Here you will see a kind of forest known as the "Varzea". You will scout along the shoreline for some of the extraordinary creatures found only in this unique environment. Weather permitting you will do a night excursion to observe nocturnal creatures. Today you depart the Jauaperi River and head downstream exploring a new collection of rainforest habitats. (BLD)
Today you will stop to visit the substantial boat building village of Novo Airao. As you walk through the streets you'll marvel at how the 19th Century still thrives in this remote corner of the globe.
Tonight your motor yacht goes downstream to arrive at daybreak near the confluence with the Amazon. As you glide through the darkness, you may like to celebrate with the national drink of Brazil, the Caipirinha! (BLD)
This morning you will explore the Lago Janauari Ecological Park, where seasonally the brown water of the Amazon flows swiftly through the forest. Around midday your vessel will travel to the "Meeting of the Waters", a distinct several mile-long line, where the world's two largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro, join in a turbulent maelstrom. Here the dark water of the Negro runs beside the opaque brown water of the Amazon.
In the afternoon you scout one of the hidden streams in the area to try to see more of the Amazon's beautiful and bizarre creatures. Tonight there will be one last excursion looking for jungle life. (BLD)
This morning you will disembark in Manaus before being transferred to the airport for your onward flight. (B)
