Cape Town – City & Table Mountain Tour

This morning we enjoy a city tour taking in the highlights of Cape Town, which include the Castle of Good Hope from 1666, the Malay Quarter and the magnificent Table Mountain. Here we ascend to the top (weather permitting) by revolving cable car, where you are able to marvel at the birds-eye view of the city and its beaches far below. This afternoon we proceed to the harbour where we board a ferry to Robben Island, formerly a political prison and now a museum and a National Monument. Here we view what was once Nelson Mandela’s maximum-security prison cell during his 18 years of incarceration. (B)

Day 3
Friday 6 October 2017

Cape Town – Peninsula Tour

Today’s pleasant tour begins with a scenic drive along the Atlantic Coast, with its glorious views of the Twelve Apostles, part of the Table Mountain Range; the fishing village of Hout Bay, one of Cape Town’s best-kept secrets; and then on to Cape Point in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.

We then continue along the False Bay Coastline and returning to Cape Town by way of Simon’s Town where we visit the Penguin Colony at Boulders Beach and view Fishoek fishing village and the Muizenberg Mountain. On arrival at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens we undertake a short walking tour of these beautiful gardens. Our return journey takes us past the University of Cape Town, Rhodes Memorial and the Groote Schuur Hospital where the world’s first successful human heart-transplant was performed in 1967. (BL)

Day 4
Saturday 7 October 2017

Cape Town / Johannesburg / Kasane / Chobe

This morning we are met and taken to Cape Town airport for our flight to Johannesburg where we change planes for our flight to Kasane in Botswana. On Botswana’s far northern border lies the Kwando, Linyanti and Chobe River system forming a series of lakes, islands and floodplains. This area forms the Chobe National Park, famous for its large buffalo and elephant herds. In addition to a variety of predators, there is an abundance of wild game and bird life which decorate these beautiful waterways.

Following breakfast we are taken by road to our lodge located adjacent to the Chobe National Park. We have time to relax this afternoon before participating in a sunset cruise on the river to observe the animals as they come down to drink. (BLD)

Day 5
Sunday 8 October 2017

Game viewing in Chobe is a unique experience as Chobe National Park is the best place in the world to see the majestic African elephant for it is home to the world’s largest elephant population. Game drives into the Chobe National Park depart daily or alternatively choose a cruise, led by an expert guide. Cruises along the Chobe River are a wonderful and somewhat different way of viewing the game. During the dry season in particular, the wildlife congregate in numbers at the water’s edge to quench their thirst. (BLD)

Day 9

Nairobi / Mount Kenya National Park

Today we drive north to our lodge situated in the shadows of Mt Kenya, Kenya’s highest mountain. Our lodge is built on the slopes of Kenya’s legendary Mount Kenya and it offers a matchless game viewing opportunity whilst combining a glorious panorama of mountain vistas with the primordial splendours of an ancient rainforest. Floating high on the flanks of Kenya’s highest mountain and secreted deep within her largest forest reserve, the lodge offers not only the champagne-clarity of mountain air, the tranquility of the forest and a colourful cavalcade of wildlife but also the chance of scaling the icy peaks of Africa’s second-highest mountain.

You can awake to the trumpeting of elephant, fall asleep to the symphony of the African night or sit in stillness and observe the fascinating interplay of the animals as they arrive to drink, bathe, spar and forage around the water hole. Down the secret viewing hide by the water’s edge, you will experience the awesome thrill of being only meters away from some of the most massive beasts on earth – the savannah elephants.  (BLD)

This is Africa as Teddy Roosevelt saw it years ago when he led one of the first safaris to tour Africa in comfort and splendour. The tents at Sweetwater’s will remind us of this past era. The combination of amazing wildlife and stunning views across the open plains of Ol Pejeta guarantees an unforgettable safari experience. (BLD)

Day 13

It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where the visitor may see animals in the same super-abundance as existed a century ago. We will enjoy an afternoon game viewing drive in this vast and expansive reserve teeming with game.

Masai Mara Game Reserve is famous for her big five; the most sought after in the early 20th century, when Kenya was a hunters’ paradise. These include the lion, Cape buffalo, the savanna elephant, black rhino and the elusive leopard but the Mara offers so much more with vast savanna grasslands as far as the eye can see which is home to impalas, Maasai giraffes, waterbucks, wart hogs, Thompson & Grant gazelles, topi and the resident wildebeest among many others. (BLD)

Day 14 & 15
Tue/Wed 17 & 18 October 2017
Masai Mara Game Reserve

Over the next two days we proceed on a full day of game viewing drives & adventure. Be on the look-out for the big five that Masai Mara is famous for. We may even be so lucky to witness a leopard or a cheetah sprint and make a kill! We also visit a traditional Masai Manyatta (Village) and experience the culture of this world famous community. The Masai still live as they did for centuries. We interact with these nomadic people and experience their way of life as you learn about their customs and traditions. (BLD)
